iRobot suggests cleaning the area around the i3+ EVO best vacuums before using it. This includes putting away any toys or clutter it might come across. It's also an excellent idea to keep the dustbin and filter clear so they don't become clogged with dirt. The Roomba i7+ is able to remember up to 10 floor plans and their names with Imprint Smart Mapping, a system that allows it to identify rooms to clean them more efficiently. It also integrates with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning jobs, and you can control your robot via the app or via voice.

In our testing the i7+ was faster and more maneuverable than our second-placed model, the eufy RoboVac G30, and it removed large chunks of pet hair from all surface kinds including carpeting. Its biggest advantage over the eufy, is its self-emptying dustbin which removes a major source of maintenance and reduces the amount of time spent cleaning robots for home.

We were also awestruck by the i7+'s integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services which we used to instruct the robot to begin, stop or pause its cleaning sessions and to move around the room and vacuum a specific space. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ to these services. We were able, once connected, to speak commands to the i7+, like "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s settings and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

In a world filled with vacuums that are cordless and feel like minivans or buses, this small Dyson model feels like an old-fashioned sports car. It's powerful and has features to replace a stand-up vacuum for many households and can fit nicely on a coffee table or on a bookshelf where you can wave it around like a magic wand.

The V10 is powered by a 7-cell, energy-dense lithium-ion battery that produces fade-free power for 60 minutes. Its advanced whole-machine filter system captures allergens and expels cleaner air back into your home. The specialized head uses rigid nylon bristles that penetrate deep into carpets and collect large crumbs or fine dust. It has three suction modes to match the task being performed. It quickly converts from handheld vacuum to floor vacuum and back again.

The model comes with a dock that can charge the Dyson to 100 percent within 3.5 hours. It also gives easy access to 2 attachments as well as a wand. This is a huge improvement over earlier Dysons models, that require a long charge and are a pain to store.

The biggest issue with the V10 is its limited run time. The tests conducted by CR show that its claims to run up to 60 minutes are a bit misleading. This is a typical and not a remarkable time to run an electric cordless vacuum powered by batteries. This is enough time to clean the typical home however, it's not enough time to reach every area. (A second run is usually sufficient). This doesn't mean that this model doesn't have its advantages It's lighter and more agile than older cordless Dysons, and its vacuuming efficiency is better on low-pile carpet.

4. iRobot Roomba 694

One of iRobot's most popular robot vacuums the 694 is an entry-level model that's an excellent choice for people who don't wish to spend too much money on a robot. It's capable of sucking up all types of debris and sizes during our testing, and it often passes over the same areas several times to ensure a thorough clean. Its flat front makes it possible to reach corners and the edges of walls.

Its navigation system is smart and uses iAdapt technology to avoid obstacles and navigate your home. However, it lacks the capabilities for mapping of more advanced models, such as our top picks, i3+EVO and J7+ Series. Because of this, it may get stuck on things like phone cords and furniture that isn't in good condition, and often will run out of battery before making it back to its original location.
