Fortunately, there are simple steps that you can follow to replace your Volvo key fob battery on your own. First, locate a clean work surface to perform the process. Set out all the tools that you'll need. Find the battery hatch, and make sure it is set to "open." Use a flathead screwdriver, coin or a similar tool to turn the hatch to open. Next, carefully pry out the battery by lifting the side closest to the hook of the key-ring. Be sure to use rubber gloves to avoid damaging the clips or electronic contact surfaces.

Place the new battery in the socket after the old one has been removed. Make sure that the positive side is facing up and that it is placed in all of the clips. Slide the cover towards the key-ring until it loosens and it falls off. Then, you can remove the cover and reveal the mechanical key blade that is hidden within. This can be used to unlock your vehicle from the driver's side in the event that you've lost or broken the key fob.

How to Start Your Vehicle

Modern vehicles come with keyfobs that do more than just unlock and secure the doors. They can also be used for other useful functions, such as summoning and auto-parking the vehicle. The latest volvo excavator key XC60 is capable of remotely starting your engine by using its key fob buttons. What exactly is it that it does?

First, locate an area of clean work surface on which you can lay out all the required items needed for this project. Then lay the fob on the work surface with its Volvo logo facing upward. Be careful not to touch the electronic contact surfaces of the fob using your tools, since this could cause the fob's key to cease functioning properly.

Once the hatch is open, slide the battery into its socket and make sure it is seated correctly with the positive (+) side facing up. After the clips are secured in place, replace the battery cover and then reassemble the fob.

When you press the unlock button only one time and the alarm will removed and the driver's doors will be unlocked. By pressing it a second it will unlock all doors and the tailgate. The unlock button can also be used to roll down the windows during the hot days or to let in fresh air before stepping out on the road. If you'd like more options, the keyfob could be used to activate the ERS system, which will start the climate control system in your vehicle and warm or cool the vehicle to desired temperature setting while the vehicle is parked.

How to Replace the Battery

If your key fob isn't locking or unlocking your vehicle like it did in the past and it's possible that it's time to change the battery. The battery can be changed with a flathead screwdriver plastic pry bar, or other small tools. First, locate the small slot where the backup / emergency ignition key made of metal be. Place the blade of a screwdriver, or prybar tool into this slot and gently pry the rear of the fob. After you have opened the fob, you can locate and remove the CR 2032 3V battery. Place a new battery in its place and join the fob.

Note: Older Volvos use a different battery one called the CR2025. CR2025 batteries have 7 tenths of millimeters less than a CR2032 and you'll have to be extra cautious when replacing your battery.
