Three-wheeled buggies are great for strolling around the neighborhood or for jogging. Their compact design makes them easy to manoeuvre even in tight spaces.

New data show that three-wheeled buggies, that symbol of the noughties that were more expensive than common sense, are in a steep decline. They have been replaced by four-wheelers that are able to handle a wider variety of terrain, while still looking elegant and easy to push.

MFM reviewer Kath tested the buggy with a newborn and 3 year old and found that it coped well with grass, cobbles rough pavements, dirt tracks and kerbs. Kath said that "it is solid to push and is very stable when traversing difficult terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable so need occasionally pumping) come with suspension built-in, which was very comfortable for my children.

The shape and size of the seat is a further factor to consider. It should be large enough to accommodate your child's comfort and you will also want it to be able to recline for them to lie flat. Some three-wheel buggies have the option of lying flat, which lets your child face you, while other buggies only allow a parent-facing one.

Many three wheeled buggies have rotating front wheels that assist you in maneuvering around tight corners, whereas others are designed for running and come with fixed front wheels that lock to improve the speed and stability with which they can be driven. This is also useful if you bump against trees or a kerb. The front wheel can be lifted slightly to avoid hitting it.

Many 3 wheeled pushchairs have air-filled tyres which allow them to tackle a broad range of terrains. They are also more flexible than 4 wheelers. They also tend to be lighter. They are more prone to punctures, so you will need to have a repair kit and spare inner tube on hand.

Buggies with larger wheels may be quite wide, and can be difficult to fit in tight spaces. This is a problem when you're using it for a jogger or you need to maneuver through doors that are narrow when out and out and about. The majority of models come with compact folding options, which permit you to take off the front wheels and store them more compactly.

Easy to manoeuvre

The only drawback to this great maneuverability, is that the larger wheels of a 3 wheel buggy can sometimes make it difficult to fit into tight spaces. This is something you need to be aware of if your home area is an urban area. If this is a concern then a 4-wheel buggy may be a better choice for you.
