Saab Key Programming

Saab cars produced from 1994 have an immobilizer that relies on a set of keys. A new transponder is required for inclusion of an additional key, and special programming. This is usually handled by the dealer using the Tech2 diagnostic tool.

It can be costly. This is why you should always keep a spare key in your possession.

Transponder key

The transponder is a key that has an electronic chip. The chip sends a signal when the key is put in the ignition. The car will check to see whether the signal is the same as the one on the key. If the signals are in sync, the car will unlock and start. This is a great method to stop car theft and keep your car secure from thieves.

Transponder keys are a favored feature in vehicles, but it is important to know that they aren't as secure as traditional keys made of metal. The metal component of the traditional key can be easily cut or copied, while transponders have an electronic chip which protects it. The chip has a unique code that is programmed into a car's computer order to identify it.

When a Saab key fob is used the car recognizes it and allows it to turn on. However, it can only do so if the key fob is unmodified and has a chip that has been programmed to match. Otherwise, the car would refuse to accept the key and will not start.

After the columns and rows are soldered, it's the time to connect them to the key switches. Solder a diode on each key switch pin. This will shield the pins from current, thus preventing them from being shortened. A diode only allows the current to flow in a single direction, and has a an indicator in black that indicates which way the current will flow.

The tools plug into the OBD port and automatically guide the customer through the process, making it easier than replacing the computer in the vehicle.

Jump starting the battery

The majority of people have an item in their trunk to jump start a car in an emergency, but it may not be a good idea for newer cars. These vehicles are equipped with numerous digital and computer systems that communicate with one another. A voltage spike when the battery is connected to another could cause damage to the components and render your vehicle unusable.

Start the vehicle that is working and allow it to run for approximately two minutes before you connect the cables to the one that is disabled. Attach the red clip to the positive terminal of the battery that is good (it will have "POS" or "+" on it).
