We tested it in a home with a mix of bare floors and low-pile carpeting and found it to move and clean exceptionally well, including getting into corners. The vacuum does an excellent job of picking up pet hair on carpeting. However it's not as powerful much power as our top picks.

However, the Roborock S4 Max is better constructed, takes less time to recharge than the Shark and comes with a wider range of automation and scheduling features and support for zones that are not allowed to be used. We'd still recommend the Shark If you're looking for something less expensive or should you prefer to use your mobile phone for control and monitoring rather than a remote that is specifically designed for it.

5. Bissell SpinWave Dry and wet

It's hard to find a machine that can combine mopping and vacuuming, but this one does just that. The dual tank system of this robot allows it to mop or vacuum at the touch of a button. In our tests, it was able to effortlessly switch between surfaces and was excellent at getting pet fur off hardwood floors and carpets. It also includes an edge-sweeping tool for removing hairs from baseboards and walls.

This robot is a good option if you're looking for a model that's affordable and comes with additional features. It was able navigate obstacles with ease during our testing and can be controlled with an app or voice. It comes with a large trash bin to collect messes before they're full. The only drawback is that it could take up to 166 minutes to complete its task however, it's still faster than other robots we've evaluated.

Its side brush is often scattered with large, clinging cereal bits instead of vacuuming them. It also had a difficult time removing table salt from a bare floor, with lots of pieces falling across the floor, and out of its reach.

It can be controlled by voice via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant via an external device (sold separately). It learns your habits of cleaning and gives you a customized schedule. Cliff Detect and a edge-sweeping tool ensure that it gets into hard-to-reach places, while Dirt Detect sensors alert the robot to areas that are soiled heavily. It has a bin that automatically empties and it has a battery life of around 60 minutes. The more expensive iRobot J7 is more sophisticated and better on all surfaces. It's also more robust, has a larger dustbin, is faster to charge and can handle obstacles like electrical cords more efficiently.
