BMW Ghost Immobiliser

The Ghost utilizes the data bus CAN to communicate with your vehicle. This stops thieves adding an additional key or replacing the ECU to bypass your security system since it requires a correct PIN code to begin the engine.

The Ghost is unlike other immobilisers in that it doesn't rely on key-fobs or LED indicators. It uses the buttons on your vehicle to allow you to enter a unique disarming sequence that you only know.

Ghost links up to your CAN data network, and utilizes the buttons on your vehicle (steering wheel and centre console as well as door panels) to create a unique push sequence which must be completed before the engine can start.

This will activate the anti-hijack mode and, once it is activated any attempt to start the engine will be immediately stopped. When the system determines that the vehicle has stopped moving it will honk the horn and flash the indicators. If it fails to find the correct code it will also stall the engine (where possible). By entering your push sequence or entering service mode, you can deactivate the Anti-Hijack feature. This allows your vehicle to temporarily start without the need to enter a PIN.

The Ghost can be positioned under the dashboard or inside the centre console, it is completely secure and untouchable and doesn't require any additional wiring. The device is connected to the vehicle's CAN Data Network (similar to an Ethernet cable) and a personalised PIN code is embedded into it. This pin code must be entered before the vehicle starts. This prevents thieves from bypassing the system with an unauthorized clone or replacement ECU.

If the vehicle is stolen in any way, the Ghost will go into a service mode and disables all functions unless the PIN code is entered or you can utilize the mobile app to dearm it. This is a feature that was designed to protect your vehicle from high tech thieves who are now utilising relay boxes to steal your car. It will even stop the thieves from being able to use their mobile phones to activate your sat nav system or MP3 player to track your vehicle!

Ghost can also prevent 'Relay-style Frequency Amplification'. This is the most popular method of stealing a vehicle with a keyfob that's been copied, or stolen by hacking. Ghost can help you prevent this from happening by installing a device called Secure-A Key inside your vehicle. The device is installed inside your vehicle's key-fob and disconnects the battery after a couple of minutes of inactivity. This is possible on all modern PKE key-fobs.
